Bamboo Bridge

bamboo bridge

fragile it seems
the bridge
between this side and that,
its woven bamboo
supple
limbs the river
stretching and flowing, bending
wavering,
swimming through water
and wind
surviving floods and air and heavy rafts
logging
pondering
subtle
through the gap
there in the mid stream of it all
contriving all the weights of the river
to find
their right path
and all those
who pass over to reach
their right side
arriving through the foot and file of it
while the river continues
passing the ashes of those whose lives have flowed
to wait her swelling
that she may carry them once more
within her waters
thriving
to that furthest shore
